Description:

From Great Carson City Lit Fest Website:

2014 marks the inaugural year for the Great Carson City Lit Fest. It was conceived by bestselling author, Ellen Hopkins, as a way to spark a love of all things artisticmusic, visual art, cooking, performance poetry, theater, dance, storytelling and most of all, great literaturein her hometown. Ive participated in book festivals near and far, Ellen says. Carson City has every bit as much to offer as any of the places Ive visited. Why not build something amazing here? My goal is to see this grow into a book festival that will rival any in the country.

In 2012, Hopkins founded Ventana Sierra Youth Housing and Resource Initiative (www.********.***), a nonprofit whose mission is to help youth-in-need into safe housing and working toward career goals through higher education and the arts. The initiatives major 2013 fundraiser was a writers conference, with workshops aimed toward more experienced writers, looking to fine-tune their skills.

This year, the Ventana Sierra Advanced Writing Workshop remains (www.********.***), hosted by the Carson City Public Library, but right across the street in beautiful Mills Park will be a variety of entertainments, food and vendors. Most events are free and open to everyone, with activities designed to please the entire family, from toddlers to octogenarians (younger and older are most welcome, too).

With a lot of help from her friends in the publishing world, Ellen has built an eclectic roster of authors, poets, memoirists, and storytellers, eager to share their work and knowledge with you. Youll also enjoy book sales and signings, a battle of the bands, a childrens arts & crafts tent, cooking demonstrations by internationally acclaimed Kid Chef Eliana, and vendor booths with comics, art, jewelry, and much, much more. Plus ticketed events including an evening of world class slam poetry, and two encore performances of the stage adaptation of Hopkins first novel, Crank.
